Mrs Brown’s Boys looks set to make its mark on Christmas TV once again in 2019, having dominated the festive ratings over the past few years.
Although there have been no new series of the ever-popular sitcom since 2013, Brendan O’Carroll’s show pops up every time Christmas comes around, bringing two new festive episodes to its devoted fan base.
And sure enough we’re getting more this year – with Christmas specials from Mrs Brown and her brood confirmed for every year until 2020 – and no doubt Brendan O’Carroll and Jennifer Gibney will be dropping a few hints about what to expect when they appear on This Morning on Tuesday.
But when is it on TV, who’s appearing – and can we expect any guest stars?
Here’s what you need to know…
When is the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special on BBC One?
As yet, the BBC has yet to confirm when the Mrs Brown’s Boys festive specials will air.
However, previous Christmas specials have been screened on Christmas Day – going on to top the festive ratings – and New Year’s Day.
So if the Beeb sticks with that winning formula, we can potentially expect a Christmas night outing for the first episode, and the second to air on 1 January 2020.
You’ll have to keep an eye on the schedules though for the exact date and time of the episodes.
What will happen in the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas episodes?
The first of this year’s festive specials is called A Wonderful Mammy and the second is Orange Is The New Mammy.
As you might expect, the first instalment takes its cue from It’s A Wonderful Life, with Agnes (O’Carroll) somehow in everyone’s bad books.
She’s left to wonder what life would have been like if she’d never been born – with an ‘angel’ called Clyde offering her the chance to see just that, and leaving her in a world she doesn’t recognise where nobody recognises her either.
Orange Is The New Mammy, meanwhile, sees Agnes facing a dilemma after learning that her arch nemesis Peggy Piper the Pernod Poisoner has been released from prison.
Brendan told metro.co.uk that he had to ‘lie’ to get through a scene in the Christmas episode in which Agnes pours out what her family means to her – as he wouldn’t risk being brutally honest about his nearest and dearest, including wife Gibney (who plays Agnes’ daughter Cathy).
‘I can’t say any of her speech will spill over into actual family otherwise there will be fg war!’ he explained..
‘Imagine if I was like, “Cathy who’s a nagging bh”, we go home and it’s like, “Did you mean Cathy or me?”. It’s a tight a rope, you have to balance it. Or lie!’
Who is in the cast of the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas specials?
You can expect to see the usual cast members returning for the specials, including:
- Brendan O’Carroll as Agnes Brown
- Jennifer Gibney as Cathy Brown
- Pat ‘Pepsi’ Shields as Mark Brown
- Damien McKiernan as Rory Brown
- Martin Delany as Trevor Brown
- Conor Moloney as Father Damian
- Paddy Houlihan as Dermot Brown
- Danny O’Carroll as Buster Brady
- Gary Hollywood as Dino Doyle
- Eilish O’Carroll as Winnie McGoogan
- Jamie O’Carroll as Bono Brown
Are there any guest stars in the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas specials?
No guest stars have been confirmed for the specials – so we’ll just have to tune in to see if they spring any surprises on us.
