The first PCs supporting Wi-Fi 7 are coming in 2024 with Intel

Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) will land on the first PCs from 2024, says Intel. However, it will be necessary to wait until 2025 to really see the standard be available on different media.

Wi-Fi 7 is the successor to Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), bringing twice the data processing speeds (5.8 Gbps) and increased bandwidth stability to 6 GHz, as well as that support up to 36 Gb/s when processing data. Intel plans to expand its Wi-Fi 7 development efforts ahead of its market introduction in 2024 and intends to apply its technology primarily in laptops before expanding to other devices.

“We are currently developing Intel’s 802.11be Wi-Fi to achieve Wi-Fi Alliance certification and it will be installed in PCs such as laptops by 2024”said Eric McLaughlin, vice president of Intel’s wireless solutions division. He adds : “we expect it to appear in major markets in 2025”.

He explains that the new wireless standard nearly doubles the frequency bandwidth of 802.11ax (170 MHz) to 320 MHz and doubles the overall speed. The executive even thinks that Intel can further improve the speed before availability in 2024.
