Simon Cowell said that he is ‘putting pressure’ on himself to beat Little Mix with the launch of X Factor: The Band in a battle with the girlgroup’s own similar show for the BBC.
The Syco mogul previously announced that contestants had just days to enter the competition as he’s set himself a very tight four-week deadline for the new series’ debut.
Speaking to press on the red carpet for the ITV Palooza, Cowell admitted that he’s put himself in a rather stressful situation.
‘You have to put pressure on yourself,’ the 60-year-old admitted. ‘When I saw that [Little Mix] were bringing [their] show forward, I thought “we’re going to have to bring [our] show forward.”‘
‘It’s not about the time pressure,’ he admitted. ‘It’s making sure we get the right people.’
And a lot of that pressure, apparently, is making sure that the Shoutout To My Ex hitmakers don’t steal the talent that X Factor: The Band want to find for their own show.
‘The reason why I did it,’ the X Factor judge explained. ‘[Was] because I didn’t want them to find someone before we found someone.’
If anyone was worried about an all-out war between the music boss and his former proteges, however, they’ll be sorely disappointed – Cowell himself sees the clash as some friendly sport.
‘It’s all a bit of friendly rivalry,’ he said. ‘We love a bit of competition.’
The Britain’s Got Talent judge appeared alongside a whole host of talent at the ITV Palooza.
The Palooza attracts the TV network’s favourite stars as they all assemble to raise a glass and toast to another successful year of television on ITV.
On the red carpet tonight, we saw a stellar line-up; from Caroline Flack to the Love Islanders, even Piers Morgan attended, trying to steal Holly Willoughby’s spotlight in the process.
The X Factor: The Band will launch in December.
