Fans have praised Q Radio for their heartfelt tribute to Stephen Clements on the day of his funeral, as they held a minute’s silence to their late colleague.

Stephen was laid to rest with his service beginning at 4.30pm on 14 January, and his former station synchronised their broadcast to honour him as his funeral began.

Presenter Ibe Sesay’s voice was full of emotion as he told listeners: ‘It’s been a week from when we lost a former colleague and friend and it’s with a very heavy heart that I stand here and speak in the very microphone that Stephen used to put a smile on all of our faces, every morning without fail with that cheeky, quick wit.

‘He had the ability to do that without even trying. How he made us laugh by sharing his stories and giving us his take on Northern Ireland. It made us laugh uncontrollably at times.

‘Today our thoughts are with Stephen’s family, especially his young children Poppy and Robbie. And to coincide with the funeral service at 4.30pm, we’ll now be joined together in a one-minute silence to remember our friend, Stephen Clements.’

Following the minute’s silence, Ibe added: ‘We’re gonna miss you, Stephen’, before playing Jealous Of The Angels by Donna Taggart.

Fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to Stephen as he was laid to rest in Belfast after dying suddenly last week.

They tweeted: ‘If only we could have you back, rest in peace Stephen xx’ and ‘Still cant believe that he is gone. A true legend of the airwaves. Our wee country lost a good one.’

Others added: ‘That smile could light up the sky!!!! RIP Stephen. If only you had known how much you were loved by everyone you didn’t know in this wee country of ours’ and ‘Beautiful tribute and so sad. You will be so missed.’
