Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was thrilled with the performance of Fred in the 3-1 win over Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Goals from Andreas Pereira and Marcus Rashford, with Davy Propper putting through his own goal, gave United a comfortable win at Old Trafford.
The win took the Red Devils up to seventh in the division and a delighted Solskjaer singled out Fred as one of the stars of the show.
The Brazilian midfielder has had a mixed time at the club since arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk last year, but appears to be coming into form, and Solskjaer is increasingly reliant on him.
‘He set us off today with his midfield play, we won the ball, had to get after them,’ said the United boss. ‘Propper and [Dale] Stephens, we couldn’t let them get on the ball and Fred was maybe the catalyst.’
Fred has now started the last five United games, four of which the Red Devils have won, as he becomes a fixture in Solskjaer’s midfield.
The Brazil international has clearly won over his manager after not featuring in any of the first four Premier League matches of the season.
Solskjaer was not only pleased with Fred, but his entire team in the dominant victory over the Seagulls on Sunday.
‘We should have scored many more goals,’ said the Norwegian. ‘It was an excellent performance from the lads, when you see them going forward it is a joy to watch.
‘Anthony Martial did not get a goal but he was outstanding. Brandon Williams was excellent too – he has had some good games already and he seems he wants to be out there and enjoy himself.
‘The table does not really matter at the moment, we need to keep improving and keep winning games and see where it takes us.’
