The DIY SOS team once had a ‘massive punch-up’ behind-the-scenes while working on a build in Scotland.

The gang, which is made up of Nick Knowles, Mark Millar, Chris Frediani, Julian Perryman and Billy Bryne, have been together since the series’ inception in 1999 and they’ve had many ups and downs during that time – including a pub brawl.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Nick reflected on his time with the builders and laughed: ’20 years we’ve been together, which rather embarrassingly makes it the longest relationship I’ve ever held down. That’s a bit upsetting.’

He continued: ‘It’s like a normal family. Over the 20 years, we’ve all had tough times in our private lives at various stages and the rest of the team have gathered around to support.

‘We’ve all had to deal with various difficulties. We’ve all fallen out at various stages as well.

‘It’s happened about four times in 20 years where we’ve had what’s called a walk down the road, where we all take our microphones off and we go down the road and sort out whatever issue we’re having.’

‘We once had a massive punch-up when we were on a job in Scotland,’ Nick recalled.

Explaining what went down, Nick revealed: ‘It was just the stress of the job and various other things.

‘One evening in the pub, whilst we were chatting, we all fell out and had a punch-up and the next morning we went back to work and we got on like a house on fire.’

DIY SOS scooped this year’s Bafta TV Special Award, having aired well over 200 episodes.

Addressing the of the win, Nick said: ‘It’s really lovely. I’d like to thank all the amazing people we’ve met along the way for inspiring us to do these projects and change people’s lives for the better – and we’re not done yet.’

The Big Build – Children In Need Special airs Wednesday 13 November at 8pm on BBC One.
