Kerry Katona was left horrified to hear threats made to her 11-year-old son Max by his school friend over a game of Xbox.
The Atomic Kitten star recalled the incident in her column with new! magazine and revealed that one of Max’s pals threatened to ‘rape his druggie mum’ after losing a game to Max on the console.
Wanting to highlight that verbal bullying is still as much a problem as online abuse, Kerry wrote: ‘I was shaken to the core last week by a very unpleasant incident that occurred between my Max and a young lad he knows while the pair were playing on the Xbox.’
‘They were communicating over their headsets and when Max beat the boy at the game, this lad took the defeat badly and yelled at Max, “I’m going to rape your druggie mum,”‘ she said.
Kerry said that Max was left ‘upset and confused’ as he doesn’t know what the word ‘rape’ means and it was her boyfriend Ryan Mahoney, who she rekindled her romance with at the start of the year, who had to console Max, as Kerry hadn’t been home at the time.
‘It was such a terrifying wake up call,’ Kerry continued. ‘It proves it’s not just online trolls who can attack – the verbal word is so powerful and damaging.
‘I feel like no one’s safe, not even my 11-year-old baby who just wanted to play his computer game.’
In a similar incident last month, Kerry was forced to deal with her daughter Heidi’s classmate branding her a ‘cokehead’.
‘Our Heidi came home a couple of weeks ago saying one of the kids in her class had called me a cokehead,’ the 39-year-old said.
‘How do kids of 12 know about my drugs past from over a decade ago? It goes to show the parents are talking about me to their children.
‘I didn’t know what a cokehead was at that age and I don’t think the kids in Heidi’s class should be aware of my problems.’
Kerry added that she has always been open with her children and they are aware of her past.
She is mum to five kids – daughters Molly, 18, and Lily-Sue, 16, who she shares with ex-husband Brian McFadden, Heidi, 12 and Max, 11, who she shares with ex Mark Croft and five-year-old daughter DJ.
Kerry welcomed DJ with her late ex George Kay, who died following an overdose in July.
