After some poignant words from Pam Coker (Lin Blakley), Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has embraced the fact that he deserves to be happy and has let his guard down with Callum Highway (Tony Clay) in EastEnders.
But as the pair make a go of a relationship, much to the delight of their fanbase, there are some changes Ben is going to have to make if things are going to work out properly. Of late, we have seen him dabble in some pretty unsavoury stuff – and that’s a side of things that Callum would rather Ben steered clear from.
So when he spots Ben having a shady exchange with Tubbs in the Square, he is concerned about what he is up to, who might get hurt and how it might backfire. But is Ben willing to sacrifice his dodgy dealings in order to commit fully to a crime free future with Callum?
Taking a Mitchell completely out of the world of dodgy dealings would be a big ask but one thing that Ben and Callum need to move forward is trust. So when Callum voices his concerns to Ben over his way of life, will Ben take on board what he says? Or will he continue to operate behind Callum’s back?
It’s clear that Ben does have the determination to be a better man and there is certainly a conscience within him – especially where Callum is concerned. On the other hand, Phil (Steve McFadden) recently allowed him the trust of being more involved in the business side of things.
And it’s something that Ben has thrived in; an outlet where he can channel his anger and bitterness.
But now, he has much more to lose – so can he compromise in order to put Callum’s mind at rest? Or might the couple find themselves divided over this?
EastEnders airs these scenes on Thursday 21st November at 7: 30pm on BBC One.
