Coronation Street star Beverley Callard wants 2020 to be a family affair for her character Liz McDonald, with some familiar faces potentially returning to the cobbles.

The actress wants a reunion for the McDonald family, which includes Liz, sons Steve (Simon Gregson) and Andy (Nicholas Cochrane) and on-off flame Jim (Charles Lawson).

Although with the horrific stunt Jim pulled last time he saw Liz – pretending their deceased daughter Katie was actually alive – it might be for the best if he stays away.

Beverley, 62, told Daily Star: ‘I so wish the producers would get us all back together. I know the fans would love it. Charlie came back last year for a brief while, which was fantastic, and we are hoping it will happen again next year.’

There has since been a new addition to the McDonald family recently, with Steve discovering that he is actually the biological father of Emma (Alexandra Mardell).

‘The fans have always loved Liz and Jim.

They like seeing them together, then not together, then together again. Life was never boring for Liz and Jim. I think the reason the McDonalds were so popular was because the writing was just so great. And we all got on so well together. It was just so easy.’

Jim made a brief return last year for the nasty plot that saw him trick Liz in order to steal money from her. Despite leaving under a cloud, his feelings for his ex wife were reignited.

Actor Charles previously confirmed in an interview with Metro.co.uk that there is scope for Jim to return – but will his family want to know?

Andy actor Nicholas made his debut on Corrie with the McDonald family in 1989 alongside Simon as Steve.

Nicholas was on the show for seven years before he was written out in 1997, with Andy taking a job as an English teacher in Spain. He made brief returns to Weatherfield for Liz and Jim getting remarried, and to be best man at Steve’s wedding to Karen in 2004.
