Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen remains ‘attracted’ to the opportuntinty of joining Manchester United after telling Jose Mourinho he won’t sign a new deal at the club.

The Dane has around seven months to run on his deal in north London and Mourinho had hoped his arrival would convince the midfielder to reconsider his future with Spurs.

However, Eriksen reiterated to Mourinho this week that it remains his desire to leave the club and Spurs are open to offers in January in order to avoid losing him on a free at the end of the season.

United made a last-ditch effort to sign Eriksen last summer but the Danish international was unconvinced by a move to Old Trafford and, in any case, Spurs were demanding around £70m.

The club are now likely to accept a figure closer to £25m and the Athletic claim Eriksen is ‘attracted’ to the size and scale of a club like United.

Eriksen, for his part, would prefer a move abroad and had hoped that Real Madrid would make a move for him last summer.

Juventus have since entered their running given their tendency to move for players entering the last months of their deals.

The Old Lady have signed the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Andrea Pirlo, Emre Can, Adrien Rabiot and Paul Pogba for free in recent years and Eriksen is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1st.
