MADRID, Sep. 22 (Moose Gazette) –
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, met this Wednesday with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, with whom he shared Europe’s expectations for China to use its influence over Russia to put an end to the war in Ukraine.
In a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that is being held these days in New York, Borrell and Wang have spoken about the “destabilizing effects” of Russia’s war against Ukraine on a global level, as well as the effects on Human Rights, according to a statement released by the office of the High Representative.
All in all, Borrell raised the “precarious situation” that is taking place around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, stressing to Wang that a nuclear accident “could occur at any time”, while stressing the importance of discussing “with priority” how to avoid a nuclear crisis.
“The High Representative Borrell and the Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, discussed issues related to Human Rights, including the convening of a Dialogue on Human Rights between the European Union and China to discuss issues of interest,” reads the letter shared by the Borrell’s office.
